Day 19: Buffalo

UPDATE!

Albright-Knox Gallery!

Literary Buffalo!

****

It rained in Buffalo when we tried to do inventory, and yet everyone stayed cheerful.

This is the Buffalo way.

To get to the auditorium at the Albright Knox gallery, I walked past a Lee Bontecou sculpture, a Chagall, a Pollock and a Miro. I didn’t even have to try to be overwhelmed by the sublime.

I heard new poems by Joshua Beckman, new to me poems by Aimee Nezukumatatil and Peter Ramos, and newly published poems by Monica Fambrough (and cell phones, people shuffling out in the middle of the reading, and, sadly, snoring).

This was our last night with Anthony McCann. Anthony, we’ll miss you.

Even though I was tempted to find some Buffalo Tofu Wings after the reading, I had to call it a night early in order to try to preserve sanity for our travels across the border.

Onward to Canada!

Enjoyed the reading, no cell phones or snoring here. Took this shot at intermission; the alienesque silhouettes by the bus are the poets.

Good to hear you reading again, Matthew…in internet-ether, if not in person.
    Love the new book…relishing the all-important re-readings:)

Wonderful event at The Burren in Somerville. After asking about “Anthony McCann”, I just now read that he left after Buffalo, my home town!

Guess the beauty of Albright-Knox just got to him, there he sits, pondering, writing, pondering, . . . that is the Buffalo way.

Really enjoyed tonight, even if I had to leave early ~ friendly folk, joyful readings. Next time, include Anne Bradstreet. “To My Dear Children” is fitting anywhere! Thanks, Karen
