Day 20: Toronto
UPDATE!
****
A story:
As Joshua, Heidi and I waited for a cab to take us and our book cargo to Stone’s Place (the Rolling Stones themed bar where the reading happened) I watched two kids tossing a water balloon back and forth in their front yard, trying to break the balloon against one another or the sidewalk.
As one threw the balloon up as high as she could, the other gasped.
She gasped but not at the balloon flying up past the trees but at a little black squirrel running across a wire.
“A squirrel!” the gasping girl said as the balloon fell forgotten on the sidewalk.
Both girls pointed and clapped as the squirrel scurried down the tree.
A list:
I find myself singing two things in Toronto:
1) The theme song to Sanford and Son by Quincy Jones.
2) The theme song to Canada, “O Canada,” to the tune of “Oh Donna” by Richie Valenz
Another list:
Firsts:
1) Visiting the glorious T-dot
2) Hearing Kate Hall, George Murray, Ken Babstock, Damian Rogers and Kevin Connolley
3) Seeing Joshua read his poem “Leave New York”
4) Overhearing a poet say, “it’s a kind of homo-erotic poem about playing hockey with your buddies on a frozen lake.”
5) Seeing the mind boggling Typing Explosion perform.
