Day 24: The Five Colleges (okay, three of the five) and Amherst UPDATE! More from the Five Colleges! UMass! Mt. Holyoke! Goodboy Rodney! WFCR! **** I stayed away from the bus today as it toured the five colleges due to a pressing engagement with the false hope for rest and sanity. Here is a photo Joshua took of the Typing Explosion outside of costume during the five college tour. 042.jpg If anyone else has photos or whatnot, or would like to check in with comments on how they thought this little tour went, please do so below and we will all revel in the democracy of jazzy jazz (this cooks!). And here&;s a little James Tate from his Amherst reading at Memorial Hall, the start to what was an exceptional string of readers, including Lori Shine, Polina Barskova, Monica Youn and Caroline Knox. The last, Caroline, read from a new manuscript called &;Quaker Guns&; which I believe may be my new favorite title ever. Say it softly to yourself as you drift through your day, &;quaker guns, quaker guns, quakers guns.&; It&;s the world we live in.

Long live the poetry bus! It was a great experience to witness enjoy such an enthusiastic traveling circus. I got something from all of the readers. It was a special kick to hear Jim Tate read some of his earlier work and Caroline Knox&;s Quaker guns blew me away. I&;ve given Joshua Beckman&;s book to a few friends&;his fan base is growing amongst SF visual artists. Thanks again and happy trails to you all.

Reading this blog I so feel as though I&;m in the wrong continent! I am a poet, sometimes a performer and I also work for National Playbus Association in Scotland, supporting all sorts of mobile community work. A bus full of poets travelling around sounds like great fun!
